Tanesha Dixon is a 7th &and 8th grade social studies teacher and technology integration coach at Wheatley Education Campus in Ward 5. She has also spent this year as an Education Innovation Fellow, a partnership of the CityBridge Foundation and NewSchools Venture Fund, learning, designing, and implementing innovations in blended learning. In addition to her teaching, coaching and fellowship responsibilities, Tanesha also serves as a Social Studies Teacher Cohort Leader and Teacher Selection Ambassador.
Prior to teaching in DC, Tanesha was both a middle and high school teacher in Gainesville, FL, where she was honored as the county’s Middle School Teacher of the Year. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame and a Master’s degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from the University of Florida. From published author to award-winning game show contestant, Sean McGrath wears many hats, except when he’s in his school building – it’s against the rules. As a fifth-year teacher, Sean brings U.S. history to life for his eighth graders at Stuart-Hobson Middle School through engaging hooks, enriching field trips, complex texts, creative writing assignments, and higher-level assessments. As part of the Chancellor’s Cabinet this year, Sean is proud to be an integral teacher-leader in the growing DC Public Schools family. Clare Berke teaches 9th grade English and AP Language & Composition at Benjamin Banneker Academic High School. This is her fifth year teaching in DCPS, and she enjoys sponsoring the journalism club and biking from home to school in under 15 minutes. A native Buffalo New Yorker, Amanda made the move to Washington DC three years ago to pursue a career in elementary education through Teach For America. Currently in her third year at Stanton Elementary, Amanda teaches 5th grade math and heads up the Blending Learning program at her school. Highly effective last year, Amanda brings humor and creativity into her classroom and prides herself on building strong relationships with her students.
Destinee Hodge is a third-year Spanish teacher at Kelly Miller Middle School. Originally from the British Virgin Islands, she attended the University of Texas at Austin where she studied Spanish and Journalism. She has infused her passion for travel, language and culture into her students’ learning experiences and hopes the knowledge she shares with them will ignite a desire to explore the world for themselves. She teaches her students how to be cultural translators or modern-day “Sacagaweas” by making them knowledgeable about other cultures and helping them to act as a mediator between other customs and their own. In her spare time, she enjoys travel, reading, and playing her flute.
Amanda Rogers began teaching visual arts in Pennsylvania after graduating from Moravian College in 2007. After working in public schools in Pennsylvania for three years, she moved to Washington DC to work for DCPS. During her first two years with the district, Amanda worked at Jefferson Academy Middle School as a digital arts and visual arts instructor. She also designed a mural for the annual DCPS Beautification Day for the students at Jefferson, which Kaya Henderson and 20 other volunteers and students helped to paint. This year Amanda has transitioned to teaching visual arts at Langley Elementary School. She currently writes a classroom blog and updates the classroom Instagram account with colorful and exciting photos of her students working. Originally from Rumson New Jersey, Jennifer Krystopowicz has lived in Washington, DC since completing her undergraduate degree at George Washington University. After college she started working at Tyler ES, where she has been teaching students with disabilities for the past 7 years. While at Tyler, Jennifer completed her Masters in Special Education, achieved her National Board Certification, Wilson Certification, received the Rubenstein Award, and is currently participating in the Teaching Leadership Initiative. Earl was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He is currently a fourth grade teacher at Bancroft Elementary School. He was inspired by his teachers to pursue education as a career. DCPS Incarcerated Youth Program
Angelique is a life- long learner who loves infusing technology in her lessons and other professional as well as personal aspects of her life. She loves reading and tries to share that love of reading by motivating students and getting them to see reading as an enjoyable pastime and not a chore. She sees herself as a change agent for students who many times are resistant to change. Coolidge High School
Nicole Bell teaches chemistry at Coolidge High School. She was previously a Teach for America corps member and has also worked in NYC government on workforce development. Nicole is a robotics team coach at her school, and she gets very excited about robots and anything science-related.
A native of Spain, Sara Arranz Ramiro arrived to DCPS with a wealth of teaching experience. It is her second year at as a Pre Kindergarten Spanish Immersion Teacher at Cleveland ES in Washington, D.C. She has worked extensively in developing bilingual curricula and in training other language teachers. Rabiah L. Harris is an 8th grade science teacher at Kelly Miller Middle School. She serves as the science team lead during data deep dives. Rabiah has previously taught in both public charter and public schools and is happy to return to DCPS where she had her start as a chemistry teacher after graduate school. She received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry cum laude from Howard University and a master’s degree in secondary science education from University of Pittsburgh.
